Everyone has at least one animal they are really interested in, and most people probably have a couple. Animals were always so cool to learn about as a kid, and growing up and finding out how expansive the animal kingdom really is was mind-blowing, especially when seeing the different adaptations each animal had in books or on nature documentaries, albeit definitely contributing to a slight fear of Australia's wildlife. However, seeing animals on books or on the screen are nothing compared to real life, and the best way to really do that in a truly safe manner is through zoos. Keeping a variety of animals, zoos contain everything to pique that childhood curiosity again, all while offering an interactive and sometimes jaw-dropping experience. The ability to see snakes from across the world in the same area you would be able to see native otters is truly spectacular, and the Honolulu Zoo promises so much more.
From hippos and elephants to giraffes and zebras, the Honolulu Zoo has it all, but the large variety of animals can also be kind of daunting, and seeing them all may be exhausting. Thankfully, the Zoo is seeking bids to renovate their comfort station, giving a place for visitors to rest and relax while they ponder the plethora of animals they have seen. These comfort station renovations can also provide and improve important shelter from the Hawaiian weather. Zoo visits are unfortunately dependent on the weather conditions, and nothing is worse than being excited to see your favorite animals only to have it literally rain on your parade. These renovations give visitors reprieve from the elements and allows time to recharge the batteries a bit.
Another reason these comfort stations are so important is the educational outreach they can provide. Every visitor ends up at the comfort station eventually, and while they wait for their group to finish up in the bathroom that gives others time to wander the station. The Zoo can put up important information, such as their sustainability practices, animal conservation information, and how important the environment is as well as what we can do to help preserve it. The comfort station's primary objective is to be a pit stop, but it can also be a great opportunity to engage with the zoo's mission and learn more about its goals and the goals of all conservationists worldwide.
Comfort stations are important, giving visitors a place to relax after a busy period of walking and ogling, a break from the outdoors, and a place to eat while also being a place to learn. The renovations requested by the Honolulu Zoo demonstrate a desire to provide visitors with the best experience possible, showing a care for visitors as well as the animals that are there.
